Children Traveling Alone
When it is necessary for children to fly unaccompanied, here are a few
tips you can take to ensure that the ride is not traumatic for the
child, fellow passengers or the flight staff:
* Visit the airport with the child beforehand to provide a sense of
atmosphere and to point out the people who work there.
* Dress children in comfortable clothes and pack a sweater in
case he or she gets cold.
* Pack a sandwich, bottled water,
juice and other snacks in case the child does not like the flight meal.
* Pack books, toys, games and other sources of entertainment.
* Give the child a small amount of pocket money for
emergencies and teach him or her how to use a pay phone. A prepaid
calling card also works well.
* Make sure the child
understands that movement about the plane will be restricted.
* Insturct the child to only ask uniformed airline
representatives for help.
